My father was born Lys, Switzerland, married Anna Elizabeth Marti from Kallnach, Dec 2, 1881. Father was baptized Apr 18, 1881, when he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, leaving his native land 1883, arriving in Salt Lake City, Utah in June 5, 1883. Joined the Mill Creek Ward, moved to East Bountiful, Utah in 1890, joined the East Bountiful Ward. Later, father received a call to go on a mission to his native land Oct 1895, where he baptized over forty members into the Church. He returned home in 1898. Transferred to the Centerville Ward about 1909, where he lived until his death Aug 27, 1915, where he met with an accident with the Bamberger car at 11:20 a.m. Father was a Blacksmith, Locksmith, manufacturer of Wagons, patened [sic] the first two-way flow, and was also fire Chief in Biel, Switzerland. When he arrived in Utah he commenced farming, continuing with his own Blacksmithing, which made him a successful farmer. He was the father of thirteen children. My mother is the only one of her lineage that joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints up to date.
These ancestors were Protestants by belief and were very staunch by the same.
I, Orson Nephi Bangerter, was born in a two-room adobe house with a dirt roof. About seventy yds south of the house was a large hollow and a large barn was built on the north side. Then, about 150 feet north was a irrigating ditch, which at times had fish in it. When I was five years old, I made a net of burlap sack with a hoop, catching about five dozen fish on my fifth birthday. Feb 1890, I with my parents, moved to Bountiful, also joined the different auxiliary organizations. I was baptized in the old Mill pond Mar 28, 1893 [by Heber Holbrook] and was confirmed the same day. In 1899 and 1900 I attended the LDS College in Salt Lake City, Utah. In 1903 I was ordained an Elder by Hyrum Sessions and joined the 2nd Quorum of Elders in the Davis Stake in 1904. I worked in the Temple for the dead.
In Feb 1904 I received a call to go on a mission to Switzerland, leaving Feb 24, 1904 for Europe, where I was successful in learning the language of my mother tongue. After twenty eight months, I again returned home July 16, 1906. July 17, 1905, I went outsight [sic], seeing in different parts of Switzerland and Italy.
Sept 26, 1906, I was married to Edith White in the Salt Lake Temple. Oct 15, 1906, I joined the 28th Ward in Salt Lake City and was a ward teacher from Nov 1, 1906 to June 1907. In July I moved back to Bountiful, Utah, where I continued as a truck gardener until this time. There were six children born to us.
Aug 25, 1915, 11:20 a.m. when father was returning from a business trip to Bountiful, he collided with the Bamberger Electric car, which caused his death Aug 27, 1915 at the Latter-Day Saints Hospital. Mother is alive at this writing.
